Why Every Aspiring Life Coach Needs A Coach?

I believe that an aspiring life coach needs a strong foundation to be able to become effective in life coaching. Hence, a Life coach plays a pivotal role to transfer key knowledge such as the code of ethics, professional conduct and conflicts of interests, terminologies in life coaching or the differences between life coaching and other practices. Moreover, it is important that the aspiring coach develops skills such as active listening, body language, and powerful questioning, which can be done only through one to one coaching.

Furthermore, I believe that when the aspiring coach has experienced coaching from a coach, he or she would witness the benefits of life coaching and will be motivated to give their best so that their coachee would experience the benefits of life coaching. The clarity, the personal development, the growth, and increase in confidence experienced by the aspiring coach would become the spark to ignite other people’s life. The aspiring coach would be able to understand through witnessing the transformation in his or her own life.

As an aspiring coach, it is important to refine the coaching skills. Through providing constructive feedback, the Coach will be able to enhance the communication skills and the approach of the aspiring life coach. Consequently, it will result in effective coaching skills and will enable the aspiring Coach to be more connected to their coachees and result in an impactful and transformational life coaching.

Moreover, the coach will enhance the confidence of the aspiring coach. Since, life coaching is not learned overnight, the aspiring coach will continuously work towards improving his or her skills and gaining more confidence in life coaching. Through the coach’s encouragement, the aspiring coach becomes more determined in achieving his or her greatest potential. By adopting a growth mind set, the aspiring coach will cultivate the same mind set in his or her coachees.

The coach becomes a powerful role model for the aspiring coach. The expertise of the coach will broaden the perspective of the aspiring coach through discussing about real life coaching scenarios. The aspiring life coach would be able to observe how the coach would handle difficult or uncomfortable situations through application of different coaching techniques. The coach will help the aspiring coach to develop resilience throughout his or her coaching journey. The coach also demonstrates positive attitude, empathy, compassion and a commitment to personal growth. Along the journey, the aspiring coach will learn how the coach builds trust with clients, sets clear goals, and encourages action.

On the other hand, self awareness is another important aspect of life coaching. Through being coached by a coach, the aspiring life coach will become aware of his or her triggers and behavioural patterns. In doing so, it will become easier to detect triggers and patterns in their own coachees. Self reflection is another important exercise that will enable the aspiring life coach to deeply reflect on his or her own life and become aware of one’s blind spots.

Self management may be sometimes quite challenging in life coaching. We must not forget that an aspiring coach is also a human being and may not have a perfect life all the time since we all have our struggles. The coach role is to help the aspiring coach in his or her own self management by managing one’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to better support their client’s development . It involves recognising our own biases, reactions and assumptions. The key aspects are emotional regulation, self awareness and mindfulness. These techniques will contribute to becoming more present during coaching.

Furthermore, being a life coach is a commitment to deliver consistent value which can only be enhanced through continuous learning and acquiring more knowledge and experience. That is the reason why an aspiring life coach will need a coach even after completion of his or her course. I believe that it is important to keep up with the subject since life itself is changing very rapidly. In today’s time, people have started to witness the great potentials of life coaching on a personal level and also on the executive and corporate level.

Additionally, a coach can help the aspiring coach in developing a sustainable and ethical coaching business practice especially in the early stages. For instance, by developing effective marketing strategies, it will become easier to reach people who require life coaching. Through integrity, determination and purpose, the aspiring coach can have a successful and impactful coaching business.

On a final note, I strongly believe that an aspiring life coach needs a coach and even after becoming a life coach. A coach is someone who firmly believes in the potential of an aspiring coach and who will be there until one is ready to fly. Through continuous support, respect, and encouragement, the coach will continue to push the aspiring coach to reach the greatest heights. I am forever grateful to have Dr. Krishna Athal as my life coach.
