Before walking on the journey of entrepreneurship, I never realised that the entrepreneur life was possible for me. Having worked for more than eight years as an engineer, the entrepreneurial world was completely new for me. In this article, I will be sharing my transition, what I have learned, and my own lessons on entrepreneurship.
Transitioning from a 9 to 5 Job to Entrepreneurship
When I decided to take a pause from my 9 to 5 job, it was a bold decision. I knew I was looking for something more purposeful and I did not want to have any regrets in my life. At that time of course there was the factor of uncertainty. However one thing that was a relief to me was having enough savings.
Another challenge for me was finding my new routine. I remember the first few days I was decluttering the whole house. I love the process of decluttering and giving away stuff to people. Although my parents were worried that I was decluttering a bit way too much.
Following which, I got interested to follow new courses. I followed a leadership course and my yoga teaching course as well. It was wonderful to have the time to learn everything I wanted to learn. Next, I got interested in Life Coaching and followed my course with Dr. Krishna Athal at the International Coaching Institute ICI. That became a gamechanger for me because I was learning new skills.
My lesson of this transition would be that seeking a higher purpose or that “something ” is a sign that we can use to explore ourselves on a deeper level and act on it.
The Beginning of Entrepreneurship
When I launched NIRVANA with the support of my mentor Dr. Krishna, the initial phase required a lot of patience and to be able to deal with uncertainties. What is interesting about the initial phase though is that I could use this time to experiment and do different kinds of testing to see what strategy works best. As someone from an engineering background, I started to design my own posts, do my marketing, and my accounting.
It is also important to believe in yourself, your capabilities, your inner strength, and flow with the process.
My lesson in this stage would be to use the initial phase of entrepreneurship for maximum experimentation and learning while fostering patience.
The Role of a Support System
I believe that having a solid support system in entrepreneurship is very important. In my case, my mentor, Dr. Krishna Athal became that support who motivated me to keep my drive on, and pushed me beyond my limits. He also empowered me to help other entrepreneurs in their own journeys.
My parents also played a key role in my support system. They encouraged me to pursue my business. They never put any kind of pressure on me. Moreover, they were interested to know more about life coaching and what I was learning about.
My lesson here would be to have a solid support system and people who would encourage you and push you forward to reach your goals.
What The People Don’t See
People would only see the output of your business. However, they will not see the financial investment, the personal commitment, the discipline, the doubts, and the inner strength.
The people will not see the continous self development and upskilling that you commit to with the only aim to help and empower people even more efficiently.
Only the flower will be visible to the people but not the seed. The people might comment on the flower but they will not see the nourishment behind it.
My lesson would be to continue to nourish your seed even if it is not visible to people.
What I Love the Most About Being an Entrepreneur
I believe that what I love the most about being an entrepreneur, a life coach, and a yoga & meditation practitioner is the part where I am able to give a tiny part of myself to the person whom I am coaching.
In yoga, I am giving my presence while guiding people to reconnect with their body, mind, and spirit.
In life coaching, I offer my presence and guide people towards clarity and empowerment.
The satisfaction that I get in return from my clients cannot be put into words.
My yoga clients revert back to me and tell me that their migraines have decreased and that they are getting relief from body pains. At the end of the class, they tell me that they feel more relaxed. With every session, they realise that they are improving and getting better.
My coaching clients tell me that they have more clarity on their business goals. Others tell me that they learned more about themselves and what they wanted to do. Some would tell me that I am a good listener and the sessions helped them in the expansion of their business.
While I still have a long way to go and infinite things to learn and experience, I am grateful that I have embarked on my entrepreneurial journey.
If you are an entrepreneur, where are you right now in your own journey and what lessons would you carry with you?
