Being a Woman – International Women’s Day

Today on 8th March 2026, Women’s Day will be celebrated across the world. However, I believe that Women’s Day should be celebrated every day. Maybe on this day, we can reflect on what it really means to be a woman, our safety, and what is our life purpose being a woman.

What Does it Really Mean to Be a Woman?

I believe that as a woman, we go through transitions everyday whether it is with regards to our menstrual cycle or our fluctuating level of energy, yet we are incredibly resilient and strong to keep on going despite all these changes.

Maybe you are a girl growing into adulthood, an independent woman, a housewife, an entrepreneur, or a CEO. Yet, we all are important and each one of us have our life purpose on this planet.

Also, I believe that women are extremely resilient to be able to overcome and rise again after extreme challenges or setbacks. Women rise again after a chronic disease, heartbreaks, miscarriage, death of a loved one, childbirth, loss of a job, verbal and physical abuse, and rapes. The rates of women suicide being less than men. As women, we can cry, become depressed, experience deep sadness, and traumas but we do not give up.

Being a Woman, Are We Safe?

We are in the year 2026 celebrating women’s day and yet we hear the Gisèle Pelicot rape trial case in France, we hear about the EPSTEIN files in America, the Taliban and domestic violence, rapes and crimes against women in India, and in our tiny island of Mauritius. Women abuse is still happening in every corner of the world. While people are exploring space for a place to live, our women on planet earth are not safe.

Every time I hear of such cases, I think what if it was me or someone I know and I feel hurt and angry at the same time. The bitter truth is that as women we do not have control over the minds of these abusers or criminals.

On the other hand, I am surprised that till now men invented the latest phones, cars, airspace crafts, but what about gadjets for women protection? In the age of AI or artificial intelligence and the latest technologies, why can’t we prevent these violence against women from happening?

While there is a great need to educate our sons and teach them to respect women, maybe we do not have a choice other than to protect ourselves.

Looking back, I now understand why my father insisted that I learn karate as a child. If you have a daughter, a mother, or a sister, the next time you offer them a gift, why not gift them a course on self-defence or martial arts? Maybe we should teach our daughters about good touch and bad touch from an early age because in reality the danger is everywhere.

What are Our Unique Traits as Women?

As women, we have unique traits compared to men. Women’s brain show higher activity on the right side of the brain and generally display higher levels of agreeableness meaning more nurturing, empathetic, and compassionate. Moreover, women have higher neuroticism meaning elevated sensitivity to threat or risks.

Women are more prone to holistic thinking meaning that we focus more on the “big picture ” rather than individual details. Furthermore, women have higher activity of the prefrontal cortex, which deals with long-term plannning and risk management useful in leadership positions.

The female brain can also process verbal cues like emotional tone more effectively making us better at communication and collaboration. We also have high creativity and elevated level of intuition or gut feeling.

Hence, by embracing our unique and natural traits as women, we can reach higher potentials. We have not been born to lead or act like men, not with our ego or competitiveness, but to use our unique traits as an asset to becoming our best self and lead with our womanhood – our compassion, creativity, intuition, and holistic thinking.

A world without women would be a world without warmth, empathy, care, and sensitivity. This is how important we are.

What is Our Life Purpose as Women?

I personally believe that we have been born on this planet for a reason and unique purpose.

Our life purpose will be highly dependent on our most important values. Try to ask yourself – What are your deepest values? Is it peace, respect, independence, freedom, success, or something else?

As a woman, we can embrace our unique female traits and at the same time care for the society or environment we live in. As the modern woman, we often want to do it all but are we aligned with our life values or are we just obsessed with the hustle culture?

On this Women’s Day maybe it is time to ask ourselves – What is our life purpose being a woman?

What is our reason of being on this planet and how can we contribute to a greater whole by honoring our unique traits as women?

My message on this Women’s day would be to recognise your unique strengths, become the flame that nobody can ever extinguish and spread your light to the world and community around you.
